Marc Jacobs Spring 2010 Handbag Collection

The Marc Jacobs Spring 2010 Handbag Collection was a total disappointment. The bags were either waaay to embellished or waaay to plain. Perhaps that was his theme, I'm not sure, but it also played out in his clothing and shoe collection, with the clothes almost theatrical and the shoes borderline slippers. Regardless, it sacrificed the real world appreciation and wearability of the handbags.

The basket weave bags with very long fringe along the bottom are in muted, neutral colors, with too long fabric straps that look a bit like seat belt straps. There were simple puffy nylon bags, again in a single, neutral color. The snakeskin drawstring pouch is also one solid color and material, including the strap. Then there were the bags drowning in tassels, which were the worst in my opinion. Not only were the tassels grossly overdone, the bags were, again, boring and muted in color. The "bag" that could have had the most potential, material and color combination wise was wasted on a fanny pack.

Marc Jacobs Rockabilly Handbag

Category: Fall 2009 | Marc JacobsAdministrator @ 03:08

When I first saw the Marc Jacobs handbags for Fall 2009 I was excited, but the US based stores are only carrying the most boring of the selection, when they should have chosen these. This Rockabilly bag is ok, but he also made it in fushia, a much better choice in my opinion. It's laser cut leather in a wavy pattern, more interesting than a plain black leather bag, but still. If you keep the front zipper open you can see a bit of the fushia silk lining. $1,350.

Marc Jacobs Quilted Ponyskin handbag

Category: Fall 2009 | Marc Jacobs | Winter 2009Administrator @ 03:32

I'm usually a huge fan of Marc Jacobs handbags, and while I like this bag somewhat, I wouldn't want it in my collection. I have had experience with a very similar bag that looked absolutely beautiful, but when I carried it I found it extremely uncomfortable and inconvenient. Ponyskin is very coarse and scratchy, and unless you always wear this bag with thick, long sleeved shirts, you will feel discomfort. I say it's inconvenient because when there are multiple contents in this type of bag, the top leans forward due to the extra weight of the front flap and anytime you need to get something out of this bag you have to take it off your arm and lift the flap, so forget about quickly getting to your phone or wallet.

I do love the color of the bag and the gold chain strap. I also really like quilted bags, but this one would have been better in leather. It has an exposed zipper at the base the expend the bag. $1,995.

Marc Jacobs Frame Wallet sequined purse

Category: Fall 2009 | Marc JacobsAdministrator @ 05:45

I really, really like this Marc Jacobs handbag. He has been known to make fabulous doubl bag designs, like the bag on bag and the bag in bag designs, and now he brings us this wallet and coin purse combination. The bright fushia sequins and small size restrict this bag for evening attire, but at $595, that's not so bad. I love the safety pins along the strap, it gives the bag his signature without having his name all over it. The only thing I'm not crazy about are the gold squares sewn on the front. They aren't necessary and they don't add anything to the bag. Available at Net a Porter.

Marc Jacobs Beat Bag Quilted leather handbag

Category: Fall 2009 | Marc JacobsAdministrator @ 03:29

I remember seeing the Marc Jacobs Fall 2009 handbags when they were debuted last spring, and was very excited about the some of the gorgeous bags, however the only ones released thus far are pretty boring and not the best from the collection. This Beat Bag is one of them. It's an ok bag...nothing remarkable about it. It's leather flap bag with gold studs throughout and a small padlock detail. I was looking forward to these Marc Jacobs fall 2009 bags. $1,150 at Net a Porter.

Marc Jacobs Safety Pin Clutch

Category: Fall 2009 | Marc JacobsAdministrator @ 03:27

Mar Jacobs started doing the 'safety pin' bags last season, and for Fall 2009 he is continuing this fabulous trend with a gemstone detailed safety pin clutch. The clutch is a really great bag alone, but the gemstone detail puts it in the realm of fabulous. Also worth noting, it's very reasonably priced, $595. And it's NOT Marc by Marc Jacobs, his less expensive line, it's Marc Jacobs. The safety pin is over sized enough that everyone will notice the clutch’s cheeky little details, and of course it’s a great (but understated) way to reference this season’s 80s punk inspirations. I haven’t liked one of Marc’s clutches this much in quite some time. The bags are leather and come in the two color combinations shown, as well as black and pink. All three bags are gorgeous. Buy through Nordstrom.com, $595.
