That's A Fabulous Handbag

I guess if it's not broke.... Diane von Furstenberg handbags for Fall 2010 are very similar to her previous collections, but with cold weather materials and Fall colors. The woven, multi-colored slouchy shoulder bag is becoming her signature. The other familiar bag to make a return was her clutch with front hardware detail, but it's a great design and I'm glad both have come back for another season.  My favorite design from the collection is the shoulder bag with feather details, and is on my 'must have' list for Fall.

The Diane Von Furstenberg 2010 Spring Handbag Collection is quite conservative, like her overall designs, and a bit safe. The handbags don't vary too much from her last collection, including many knit and woven shoulder bags and hardware embellished clutches, but they worked last season, and I'm sure they will be a hit this spring as well.

The slouchy woven shoulder bags are my favorite, especially the pretty electric blue bag. The most unusual, and not necessarily in a good way, is the bag that looks like a throw pillow and the one that has the various tassels hanging down the sides that looks like a duster.

Overall, I would say this collection was hit and miss with more hits than misses. But since DVF is primarily a clothing designer, it will not taint her reputation.

The Diane von Furstenberg Handbags for this upcoming Fall 2009 are very chic, yet slightly conservative. While she used some flashy materials like sequins, they were in muted, neutral colors, and her stud covered bags were more Charlotte York than Samantha Jones. Her handbag collection would look good paired with her famous wrap dresses, complimenting the overall look.

The Diane Von Furstenberg Fall 2009 Handbag Collection was hit or miss. She debuted some beautiful clutch handbags, but her larger shoulder bag were hideous. Her clutches were colorful, combining various materials and textures, from gemstone details to hammered hardware. There was one decent shoulder bag in a shimmering gold material, but the others looked like they were made from shag carpet. I honestly don't see how she will sell any of the carpet looking shoulder bags. While I am always a big fan of Diane Von Furstenberg clothing, I have yet to be swayed into buying her handbags.

While I know it has been some years since Diane von Furstenberg expanded her fashion line to include handbags, I am still surprised she is asking the outrageous prices for her bags, especially as they never seem to catch on in the major department stores. Don't get me wrong, when it comes to dresses and tops, DVF is my absolute favorite. The wrap design is extremely flattering to many figures, mine included. But I really don't see anything special about her handbags. They are OK, but certainly not worth the big bucks that major luxury labels like Gucci, Louis Vuitton, or Fendi demands. The above handbags range in price $850 to $1,475. The above orange Diane von Furstenberg handbag is canvas, and has a hefty price tag of $1,200. Even Louis Vuitton is more realistic. While I will always be a loyal customer of her clothing designs, her handbags will probably never find a home in my collection.

Diane von Furstenberg struck gold with another stunning collection. This time, Jennifer Lopez, Uma Thurman, and Gossip Girls Leighton Meester and Jessica Szohr sat front row. As well, Molly Sims, Rosario Dawson, Sanaa Lathan and, my personal favorite, model Stephanie Seymour (in Alaia!). Whew. And I'm sure they were all dazzled. Everything from the shoes to the clothes were absolutely fabulous.

This collection was dubbed "Rock Goddess," and Diane described it as "an homage to Diana Vreeland, who taught us we could be goddesses and rock stars." She displayed a wide variety of bags in this collection with studded clutches, knitted totes and vinyl bags with a new signature -  a puffy DVF. I have to say, I thought the puffy DVF looked cheap. I can't wait to see these in the store and check out the price points.
