That's A Fabulous Handbag

The Louis Vuitton handbag collections are my most favorite to see during Fashion Week. Marc Jacobs always delivers fantastic bags, even when the overall collection isn’t that great. He uses the richest materials and beautiful color palettes to create accessories that are pieces of art, and it’s no wonder that Louis Vuitton handbags are among the most coveted around the world. Not only are the bags beautiful, they are so well designed they can handle daily use for years upon years. This Spring 2012 collection, Jacobs went with soft candy colors and only the richest material, matte crocodile coats, that he painstakingly hand-pieced together so that the scales match. He also did some see-through, lace satchels and a basket-like handbag in patent leather. The clutches were in the LV epi leather and the embroidered LV logo. The collection leaves me waiting, wishing for Spring’s arrival.

The season’s two Extraordinaires are the classic Lockit and the small Lockit clutch in patent alligator. Both take the fetish theme to the extremes seen on the catwalk, the former with a golden brass chain, the latter with a chain and handcuff to attach the woman forever to her Louis Vuitton bag.

Here we go…my most anticipated show for Fashion Week arrived and I was a bit disappointed, as I found the collection quite boring. Some of the bags are great, don’t get me wrong, but there aren’t any new designs other than the wool covered monstrosity that will probably never see the light of day. The only thing that makes this collection unique are a few minor details, like a belt around the handles of some of the bags or the stitched on logo charm. While I wasn’t overly impressed with the newness factor, the bags are classic and beautiful, the kind that surpass trends and can be worn forever.

While I don’t always see eye to eye with Marc Jacobs on his shoe collections he does for Louis Vuitton, he always gets it right when it comes to the handbags, as well he should considering it’s the cash cow portion of the label. The focus in this collection was on evening bags, with most being a clutch or small shoulder bag of some sort. While I absolutely loved the bags, a girl like me needs a nice big carry all for every day use, so hopefully the entire range will include more proper day bags.

The collection is wonderful, especially those patent clutches with "Vuitton" embroidered in rhinestone block letters. I’m extra thankful Marc didn’t ‘play it safe’ like many other designers that are going the sensible route because of the global recession. Marc’s handbags for Louis Vuitton is quite brazen in its decadence.

I really like the Louis Vuitton handbags for Fall 2010. Marc Jacobs theme for this collection was 50’s era ladylike fashion. This season, there were mostly reinterpretations of the classic Speedy, but much better. That functional shape originally designed in the 1930's, came flocked and sequined, smothered in guipure lace over satin, or woven in metallic thread and done up in fox.

The bags were mostly structured satchels, conservative in design and color.There were no extra tassels or fringe this season, just clean, simple cuts that made for classic and sophisticated bags. The only one's I didn’t like were the fur covered bags.
