That's A Fabulous Handbag

The Marc Jacobs handbags debuted in his Fall 2010 collection fell into two categories, furry and simple. Personally I don't like fur of any sort on my handbags, but that aside the bags were clean and structured. All of the bags were done in shades of black and white, leading some critics to say he was 'playing it safe' with this collection.

The simple bags consisted of various satchels and clutch bags, almost all made out of exotic materials, from croc to ostrich. These bags are simple in design meaning they are free of embellishments and tassels, a complete 180 degrees from the Spring 2010 collection.

Overall, the bags in this collection are sophisticated and classicly chic. Unfortunately, I can't say the same thing about his Fall 2010 shoe collection.

Where do I begin with this bag? WTF does the name mean, Fluo Passamentry Orchid? The rope detail on the front looks like a Christmas tree, and since I don't wear holiday themed clothing, I sure as hell don't want a holiday themed designer handbag. Those random squares on the tree, reminiscent of ornaments are fake gemstones held in a cheap four pronged metal setting just waiting to fall out (think gumball machine ring). All of this on a brown leather flap bag. OK, it could possibly work on a material tote in his Marc by Marc Jacobs line, but not on a leather satchel. Lastly, the purple woven strap, which is actually purple and violet shoe laces woven over the brown leather strap, which you can see through the weaving, by the way. At least it doesn't have his ridiculously long shoulder strap. $1,495 at Saks.

One of my absolute favorite Marc Jacobs handbags designs is the Stam, but even better is a sequined version. This gorgeous bag is perfect for the Christmas, new year season is shiny, sparkly electric blue sequins, but it's also a great bag for any evening of the year. The famous stam bag has the kiss lock detail, a chain shoulder strap with safety pin detail, and leather handles. This bag is available at Bluefly20% off, $1,996. If any of you doubted my criticism of Marc Jacobs handbags for the upcoming Spring and Summer seasons, take a look at the above pustulous concoction. He did some bags that aren't as bad, like the bags below, but the majority of the collection were, sadly, some sort of grossly overly tasseled design. Marc Jacobs has been at the height of the fashion industry since the nineties, for both his imaginative and beautiful designs. Just last season, the collection was fabulous, but it seems he went waaay past imaginative/creative into the realm of eccentric/strange. Oh, well, I certainly haven't written him off, I'm sure he will come back to reality and make more designs that people actually like.

The bags below represent some of the other handbags from the upcoming collection, and they are simply boring and have the cringe worthy super long straps.

This 'Jet' bag was one of my favorites from the Marc Jacobs Fall/Winter collection. It's one of his bag in a bag, with a removable interior silk bag that can be used as a evening pouchette. The outside bag is soft leather with enamel studs and Marc Jacobs logo engraved lock detail. This is a really great bag and it's on sale at Bluefly for 20% off, but hurry, there is only one left. $1,516.

OK, now this Marc Jacobs handbag is also on my Christmas wish list. It's his Jennifer Bird Cage bag and I think it's fabulous. It has just enough color, but still wearable with almost anything. I also adore the chain strap and it even has the pretty ribbon through the chain, a la Lanvin.  This bag is black leather with a detachable gold tone chain strap. It's fairly reasonable priced for a designer handbag, as well. $1,195.
